CourtListener Citations Checker

Catch hallucinated case citations — verify every cite against CourtListener's opinion corpus before it reaches a filing.

Legal ResearchFreeVerified Sep 7, 2026

A focused, MIT-licensed MCP server that does one high-stakes job: checking whether the case citations in a draft actually exist. It verifies citations against CourtListener's corpus of roughly nine million published opinions, which directly targets the failure mode behind the widely reported sanctions cases involving AI-invented citations. Point an AI assistant at a brief or memo and ask it to verify the cites; anything that does not resolve to a real opinion gets flagged. Written in Python; you supply a free CourtListener API token. A narrow tool, but the narrowness is the point — citation verification is the single legal-AI safeguard every practice that files anything can use.
